What AI Done

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about What AI Done

Do I need to create an account?

No. What AI Done is completely free to use with no sign-up required. Open the page and start comparing immediately.

Is my document safe? Does it leave my computer?

For the diff comparison, your text never leaves your device — the algorithm runs entirely in your browser. Exception: if you use the built-in AI actions (rephrase, simplify, free prompt), the text passage you have selected is sent to the AI provider you configured (OpenAI or Anthropic). The rest of your document is never transmitted.

What are the built-in AI actions and how do they work?

Right-click any text selection in the right-hand editor to access three actions: Rephrase (rewrites preserving meaning and language), Simplify (shorter sentences, plainer vocabulary), and Free prompt (your instruction). The AI suggestion appears below your original — you can accept, reject, or preview a diff before deciding. These features require an OpenAI or Anthropic API key configured in the AI settings panel.

Which AI tools does it work with?

It works with any AI writing assistant — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Grammarly, and any other tool that rewrites text. Just paste your original and the AI-edited version.

What file formats are supported?

Plain text, Markdown, most source code files (.js, .py, .ts, …), Word documents (.docx), and native PDF files. All formats are processed locally in your browser.

How accurate is the word-by-word diff?

Very accurate for most prose and documents. The diff uses the Myers difference algorithm — the same family used in Git and VS Code — which finds the minimal set of changes between the two versions.

Can I use it on mobile?

Yes. The tool is fully responsive. On mobile, it shows one panel at a time with a tab to switch between the original and the modified version. Diff highlighting and the restore feature both work on mobile.

Can I keep some AI changes and reject others?

Yes. Hover over any changed paragraph and click the ↩ icon to restore the original wording for that specific paragraph. Once done, click "Copy final version" to copy the text with your selected changes applied.
